About Me
About the Owl of Wisdom in a few lines. I went business school, got a CPA (accounting) and a major in marketing. Later did a Masters degree in Finance and a graduate program in Banking. I have worked in Banking and Consulting for over 2 decades now. I live in North America and am currently an Executive at a large bank. And, I also love reading 🙂
I have been reading on the topics of personal growth, money management and investing since my high school years. Over time I’ve learned a few things. Let me share some thoughts.
#1: There is not truly a formal education on how to manage our personal finances. As a CPA, I was taught how to read financial statements, understand financial ratios and even do financial modelling. However most of my learnings on money management have come from books, videos, podcasts, mentors, coaches and my personal experience investing myself.
#2: Money management and financial freedom is more about our mindset and habits that it is an about deep financial knowledge. There is no need to become an expert in finance. Yes, some foundational finance knowledge is important (and will share some of them here) but do not forget to invest time on how to better yourself. Mindset and Personal Growth are key.
#3: Regardless if we love our jobs or not so much, we all should start working on our finances early on in life. The first step is investing in yourself, invest in learning and then start putting into practice what you have learned. Try even if you are scared. One of the books I love on this topic is “Failing Forward” by John Maxwell. The key message of the book is that the way to achieve mastery is to start trying early, make mistakes quickly, learn from them and always keep moving forward.
