My 5 takeaways

Reading is definitively a personal experience, these are the lessons and ideas that resonated with me the most.

Embrace the journey.

Let go of the end game, instead fall in love with the process. Because it’s the journey that truly gives your path meaning. There is truly no destination. And there are no finish lines

Protect Momentum.

Never stand in the way of momentum. Then harness that powerful wave, ride it with all your might and never let go.

Become the movie star.

Stop being a supportive player in the movie that is your life. It’s time you starting acting like it.

The stories we tell ourselves.

The job begins with the understanding that certain past events or memories only have the power you allow them to have.

Take control of your inner circle.

So. Upgrade. Seek out the positive, aspirational people in your life. Avoid the people that bring you down, don’t let them rent space in your head, take away their power. Create healthy boundaries.

Extended notes

For 10 years I have been holding my breath, clinging to a vision for my life.

  • A vision that would permit me to do what I love. To realize a vision, I risked everything. Because when the heart is true, the Universe Will conspire to support you. And then I busted my ass.  Today I finally I can exhale, but only for a moment. Because tomorrow awaits – and I want to be better than I am today.

Embrace the journey

  • Let go of the end game, instead fall in love with the process. Because it’s the journey that truly gives your path meaning
  • There is truly no destination. And there are no finish lines
  • Good things take time. Great things take longer. Most people underestimate what they can accomplish in a year, let alone a decade
  • Along the way, rejoice in the struggle. True value of your life is found not in your accomplishments but rather in the hard path to achieve them

Protect Momentum

  • Never stand in the way of momentum. Then harness that powerful wave, ride it with all your might and never let go.

Become the movie star

  • Stop being a supportive player in the movie that is your life. It’s time you starting acting like it.

The stories we tell ourselves

  • They are incredibly powerful. So if we want to grow, we must learn more about what our stories are. How they inform our decision making and prevent us from transcending our limitations. Armed with this understanding, we can begin to reframe the story.
  • The job begins with the understanding that certain past events or memories only have the power you allow them to have.

Start the day with intention

  • There is something sacred about the early hours of the day. It’s the time when all is quite. The world is asleep, leaving you with a gift, an invaluable opportunity to pause, reflect and be present for your life. To engage your creative mind. To set the intention for not only the hours that follow, but also the life you wish to experience. Honor this time, not distracting yourself with inconsequential matters (email, Facebook, work).
  • Make the time for it – to reflect about priorities

Take control of your inner circle

  • It is said that you are the average of the 5 people you spend time with.
  • So. Upgrade. Seek out the positive, aspirational people in your life. Engage those who you admire. People armed with the experience you lack, people that can be trusted, to become you guide, provide objective  feedback and keep you on track
  • Avoid the people that bring you down. Poo poo-ers need not be privy to your dream. Don’t let them rent space in your head. Take away their power. Create healthy boundaries.

Mood follows action

  • Feelings are just feelings. You can not think your way into acting differently. You can not feel your way  into a behaviour change.
  • Mute the idle chatter of the mind that keeps you stuck. Decline the impulse  to indulge your low grade emotional state.
  • And just take action. Because what matters is what you do, not how you feel about the doing.

There is no failure, only opportunity

  • Failure indicates courage. It means you had the bravery to test yourself. The audacity to step outside your comfort zone. That impulse is both inspiring and empowering. Hold on to it. And congratulate yourself for trying.
  • Failure is part of the equation. It should not be avoided, instead it is  part of every triumph.
  • Because if you have not failed it is because you have extended yourself enough.

The perfect is the enemy of the good

  • Good is better than nothing.
  • Nobody is perfect. The more you strive for perfection the more it eludes you.
  • Holding our need for perfection deprives the world it’s opportunity to enjoy it.

MORNING ROUTINE

  • Sleep – 8 hours a day
  • Meditation – 20 mins. Check apps like headspace or 10% happier
  • Writing and journaling, try reading the book the artists way by Julia Cameron
  • Movement
